During WWII Japanese Americans were forced to leave their homes and live in secluded internment camps. Topaz was the name of one camp located in Utah’s western desert. While prized as the Utah state gem, topaz is also a reminder of a past when decisions were made based off bigotry. When driven by fear and hatred, there is no knowing how such an event alters the perspective of future generations.
